Extraordinary
If you had to tell a story of extraordinary courage, willpower and sacrifice, what story would you tell?
Would you tell a story of powerful superheroes, who use their superhuman abilities to defeat evil supervillains and save the world?
Or would you tell a story of an ordinary person who got caught up in extraordinary circumstances, forcing him to make life-changing decisions, putting his life and that of his family at stake?
Last week, I watched Benedict Cumberbatch play a superhero in the new Doctor Strange movie, Marvel’s latest blockbuster. As I previously wrote, I highly enjoyed it. But tonight I watched Benedict Cumberbatch in an even more impressive movie: The Courier. It’s the true story of an everyday salesman who reluctantly became a spy during The Cold War.
As much as I love fictional superhero movies with lots of visual spectacle, there is nothing quite like films about ordinary people doing extraordinary things, especially when it really happened. The Courier is such a film. Cumberbatch is a damn fine actor, but what is most impressive is that the events really took place.
So if you want to see a story of courage, willpower and sacrifice, go see The Courier (it’s on Amazon Prime).
