Food for thought

We are what we eat — literally.

I’m reminded of this when I think back to when my daughter was a newborn. We couldn’t give her breast milk, so we fed her Nutrilon, a popular brand of baby formula. For many months, this milk powder, diluted with tap water, were the only molecules entering her little body. We always had a big supply in the cupboard. I remember thinking to myself: inside those blue boxes is the stuff my future daughter is made of. And when I ordered more of it online, I thought: I’m ordering more daughter-atoms.

What we put into our bodies is what we become.

Not just literally but also figuratively. If we feed ourselves with bad news and toxic social media, we become more depressed. If we feed ourselves with positive news and happy messages, life becomes more bearable. That’s why I like to read. Good books are food for my soul.

What we put into our minds is who we become.

I guess everything we do in life comes down to this one goal: to feed ourselves and the ones we care for. It’s why food is so much more than just nutrients. Food is everything, and everything is food. So let’s be mindful of what we eat.
