How we move through the world is how we see the world
If we move really fast, we might miss things. If we move really slow, we can’t go very far.
This is why I like inline skating: I can go further then when I walk, it’s more fun than riding my bike and a better exercise than driving my car.
So I went for a skate this afternoon. The weather was perfect. I skated in the direction of a nearby town (Delft, where I went to college) and just let my skates take me where they took me.
I see different things when I skate. I discovered a petting zoo I didn’t know before. I noticed brand new houses of which all the roofs were completely covered with solar panels.
I also feel more agile on skates. I can go wherever a bike can take me — without the bike, so no parking and locking required. I did things I didn’t plan to do. I had a cappuccino on a terrace. I passed my old university campus. It was nice to be back there.
I also feel the world better on skates. Literally: the texture of the road, the bumps, the coarseness, the smoothness. But mostly coarseness.
I realized most parts of the world aren’t very inline-skate-friendly.
It’s a good reminder that everyone experiences the world differently.
