I changed my mind
One of the most powerful things we can change in our life is our mind. After all, it is the only thing we can truly control. Our mind, in turn, controls everything else in our life. What we say. What we do. What we buy.
If our mind is our operating system, we have to upgrade it now and then. Any operating system, no matter how advanced, will become less useful over time. It’s the same with our opinions, our beliefs and our convictions.
I used to believe I had to eat meat everyday. Last year, I changed my mind about that. Looking back, it was a gradual process of years, but watching several documentaries on Netflix accelerated it. I simply cannot ‘unsee’ Cowspiracy , David Attenborough’s Breaking Boundaries or The Game Changers.
So now I don’t believe anymore that I need meat everyday. I upgraded my mind. I still want to eat meat occasionally. Nothing can completely replace its taste and texture. It’s just that I don’t have to eat it. There are alternatives to meat that are not just delicious and nutritious, but also healthier and a lot friendlier to our planet.
One of my favorite things about the Dutch news website “The Correspondent” is how they start every year with a list of topics their writers changed their minds about. I think this is an incredibly powerful habit. I don’t know yet what I will change my mind about in 2022, but I’m sure at the end of the year I will have a different view on certain things than I do now.
Have you changed your mind about something last year? And what are you open to changing your mind about in 2022?
