Interesting

Some movies are good, some movies are bad. And some are interesting. Spiderhead, the current number one movie on Netflix is such a film. Netflix movies are mostly a dime a dozen, but every now and then they bring us something that stands out.

It’s not just the starpower. Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, plays the lead role and it was directed by Joseph Kosinski, who made this year’s top movie, Top Gun: Maverick. Pretty big names. But it’s mostly the story that captured my interest: Spiderhead is an interesting What if-movie.

If executed well, what ifs are always fun. What if aliens arrived on Earth? What if you could enter other people’s dreams? What if drugs exist that can induce real feelings of love and fear?

What’s so great about fiction is that through made-up stories we can get to know ourselves. Fiction allows us to safely experiment, simply by fantasizing. Sometimes these fantasies become books. Sometimes they become movies. And as the audience, we can join the writer’s fantasy. We start to ask ourselves: what would I do in that situation?

Through fiction, we can better understand reality. Or at the very least, escape from it for two hours.
