The rarest of gifts
I got a very special gift on my birthday. My girlfriend and daughter gave it to me, not realising that they did.
It was a Wednesday afternoon, and on Wednesday afternoons I’m always off from work, to pick up my daughter from school and spend the afternoon with her. But she decided to have a playdate with a friend, so off she went on her bike. And my girlfriend was at work all day.
So I had a big part of the afternoon all for myself.
The weather was great, so I sat in my backyard reading a book, enjoying the sun. I was all alone on my birthday and I loved it. I realised I hardly ever have time for myself. When I’m not working, I’m cooking, buying groceries, taking care of my daughter, spending time with my girlfriend. Important things. But it’s easy to forget that time for ourselves is important, too.
So I’m grateful for this gift I got.
I’m also incredibly grateful for the actual birthday gift my girls gave me later that day. When they revealed what it was I was shocked — in a good way. They gave me the Lego Batman Tumbler — the dream of any superhero/Lego-fan. My girlffriend probably remembered me drooling over the car when we saw it in a Lego store a while ago. I absolutely cannot wait to build it. It’s 2049 pieces, so it will take me a while.
If only I could make time for myself…
