Too long, didn’t read
How do you decide which local political party to vote for, when the elections are tomorrow? Before yesterday I had no idea. Considering my political spectrum, most parties are automatically eliminated, but that still leaves a few options.
Luckily yesterday morning, as I arrived at the metro station to go to work, a woman was handing out flyers of one of the local political parties. The train was just arriving so she asked “do you have time to accept a flyer?”
“Sure,” I said, as I took the flyer and stepped into the train. On the front of the flyer was the face of a woman that looked like the woman who just gave me the flyer.
I sat down in the train and I scanned the flyer. It was a very basic, simple leaflet. A few bullet points highlighting what they stand for and brief introductions of their candidates. Looked pretty good to me, so this party became my number one option.
But because I don’t want to go for the party that just happened to hand out flyers when I passed, I thought I should consider another party also. So just now, I looked up another party I’ve voted for in the past. I entered their name and the name of my town in Google and immediately landed on the right page of their website. The website looked good and professional.
But unlike the simple flyer from the first party, it took me a lot of effort to find out their local plans. It wasn’t handed to me, I had to look for it. And when I found it, it was so much text! Chapter after chapter, paragraph after paragraph. Where is the one-pager?
If you can’t explain to me simply what your plans are, I wonder how well you understand your audience. I’m not the most impulsive voter, so I’m going to sleep on it and decide tomorrow. But I wouldn’t be surprised if I choose the party that makes it easy for me.
Tl;dr – tell me in a few bulletpoints why I should vote for you, or your party is not even an option.
